Pre-planning for the next war

Ideas that have been floated
Alt history: Either take that save we made where it was russia and germany possibly against the world of the axis and allies against russia and china. Or do something entirely new

WWEurope: Drop Japan and china. Maybe drop USA, else stack the axis player balance to be higher

Standard game but back to human china

Everybody on majors as coops and run at speed 1 when war starts and micro the crap out of everything (aka alex's group)

1939 start(People have said this is very unbalanced so we would have to speed-4 play from 36 to create a save point for launching 39 games)

Free for all non historic

Forbidden countries- everyone chooses a nation that is usually off limits. Some good ones would be Turkey, Sweden, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Iran, Spain etc... this could also include "majors" that usually die early like Poland, France, or China. Joining an existing faction would be illegal. Players must create their own factions and use "diplomacy" to decide who joins what.

WW1 Mod lobo mentioned

Cold Wars. People can only influence and send volunteers. Try to get your faction as big as possible with some scoring metric and end date.

Anything else?

What I like about this thread is that suggests ways to increase

“Gaming Efficiency “.

More gaming per hour!

A 1939 start might increase gaming efficiency

We probably should set the rules in wet cement first.

Standard game with human China.

Let's not overthink things here.

We haven't even gotten into the meat of this game. There is no need to go down more forum rabbit holes....

I think either a Majors only, or free for all non-historic game

HoI4 Sunday players, what are your thoughts about the different game styles proposed in the WPO bulletin board?

I've ranked my feelings about the different scenarios here:

Just comments on these, not adding anything new...

I see this as a filler at best until some of the players not currently in the game are ready to come back for the next "REAL" game.
WWEurope: Drop Japan and china. Maybe drop USA, else stack the axis player balance to be higher
I'm ok with this if that's what the group wants. Though I would leave in the USA.
Standard game but back to human china
Pending the outcome of the current game, this would be my preference, with the caveat that "standard" means historical political up to and including the war on Poland/Allies.
Everybody on majors as coops and run at speed 1 when war starts and micro the crap out of everything (aka alex's group)
Speed 1 sounds just to slow, but I would try it.
1939 start(People have said this is very unbalanced so we would have to speed-4 play from 36 to create a save point for launching 39 games)
Not a fan of this idea. Takes away any and all ability to even tinker with country setups that are available for us to do in the pre-war period (talking force composition and economic choices, not political and national destiny changes). Any good luck getting everyone to agree what each nation should look like at the game start. Gets right to the action potentially, but loses all of the flavor.
Free for all non historic
Zero interest for me, would probably sit out.

Ha! I interpolated these feelings into hard numbers and quantified Mikey's opinion in (can you guess?)

the spreadsheet.

A wealth of ideas.

Having a more satisfactory 1939 start point could be a community service for AP as well as MP.

At 24 points each, the top two game styles preferred by a convenience sample of WPO HoI4 players are

  • WWEurope: Drop Japan and china. Maybe drop USA, else stack the axis player balance to be higher
  • Everybody on majors (primary or coop) and run at speed 1 when war starts and micro the crap out of everything (aka alex's group)

  • KEY:

Scale of 0 to 10 preference for HoI4 game style
0 = you don't like it at all and won't play
5 = neutral feelings. "Meh. OK. I'll play"
10 = you really, really like this play style

I think this war will still be raging by that time.
