I wouldn't suggest putting a sizeable force in a fort unless you just absolutely feel you must hold it. It will help with the siege tests and make assaulting the fortress damn near impossible if you stick like 15-20K men in it, but that's also a lot of men to lose to surrender. It's worth putting the little garrisons in though, as they'll make any assaults against the fort costly for the defender for a minimal investment on your part.

In short, kinda depends. If you have another large army around and want to tie down the besieger, maybe. Otherwise, probably not worth it to have more than the base garrison.

Regarding initiative, I'm not 100% sure how it functions beyond it determines who goes first. According to the manual, the unit with the higher initiative goes first in each phase (bombardment, combat, pursuit)

Alternatively, a fortress can be a good place for a battered army to hold up in until reinforcements arrive. But, I agree that it should only be done under specific conditions, as it can be a quick way of having an army isolated.

This is largely the CK2 group, correct?? I think it's time to move this thread out of the Game Finder forum. I think we've attracted all the guys we're gonna get and will just have to live without a Prussia...and possibly a Sweden.

Fair point. We'll move it back to the 9th just to avoid complications.

Hey all, zarin and I were trying to run a mp game for practice purposes, and ran into some connectivity issues. It was at this point that I recalled the port-forwarding nonsense that typifies Paradox games from this time period, so I suggest one of three options:

1: We schedule a "connectivity session" to work out these issues for everyone in advance of the September 9 start date.
2: We start as anticipated on September 9, on the assumption that much of the session will likely be taken up by figuring out this setup for every person.
3: We work it out on an individual basis in advance of our starting date, such that everyone is able to connect with someone through a standard IP address connection. I'll admit to having little technical know-how on this issue, but I know both aphro and altaris are well-experienced with this issue.

Crap...

IIRC you need to set up port forwarding on your router.

Might just be easier to use Hamachi I will download latest version this weekend and check it out. Prolly easier than working with router configs

Crap I totally forgot, will install Hamachi tonight, may ask you guys to do some connectivity testing throughout the week.

Speaking of which, you'll need Hamachi installed to test this out, the link to download and install is here: https://www.vpn.net

You'll have to create a LogMeIn account as part of this process, directions are easy to follow though.

EDIT: Crap, Hamachi only supports up to 5 computers on a VPN under it's free plan. May have to look for other alternatives.

Actually let's go with Hamachi, it's the easiest one I can find to use without worrying about bandwidth restrictions. If we end up having more than 5 show up, I'll fork out the money to upgrade the subscription, it's not that much and I can find some uses for a VPN anyway.

We should do some connectivity testing over the next few days to check things out before game starts.
