The Cantabrian Succession Crisis

So, after nearly 1000 years of prominent rule in western Europe, the de Cantabrian family is in dangerous chance of extinction. Upon the death of Gisela II, the last remaining heir, Gisela III, took the throne at the ripe age of 57. Gisela III, a scholarly type not much taken with social graces, never bothered to marry or rear children (a gross oversight for such an ancient family). Thus we find ourselves in a very likely Succession War scenario upon the passing of Gisela III.

After reviewing the save, it appears I told most of you wrong, I thought the succession crisis was between Byzantium and Italy, but it appears it is between Great Britain and Italy instead. This does change the discussion quite a bit. Probably worth beginning some discussions here.

For the record, I would not like to disturb the balance of power so much as placing Cantabria directly under my rule, and I doubt the Brits could legitimately hope to keep such a relationship on their end...

Nor would I try to keep it, Cantabria should remain Altaris' for the good of the game dynamic.

Now I’m a bit late in proposing this but if you want we could still work out a deal in which you’re my vassal

We should probably work out what we're going to do in the event of a succession crisis before game starts, you know...

Given Italy's intention to restore the Cantabrian crown to its rightful owners, France will back our Stuyvesant allies. The balance of power in Europe must be maintained, in our view.

As I have already stated, my intent is also to restore Cantabria. So... what do we do now?
